There’s a first time for everything… There is a time and place for everything… And if the first, time and place happen to be in Talkeetna – you’re probably in for a good time. Case in point: the 36th Annual Talkeetna Bachelor Auction.
Hosted by the Talkeetna Bachelor Society, a loosely organized group of men in TKA who support the community through services like shoveling, plowing and helping around the town and raising money or items to donate to the Mat-Su Borough women’s shelter, the Bachelor Auction is their annual staple. According to previous attendees and women-in-the-know, the event has grown in notoriety and attracts women from the Lower 48 and around the world to attend every year.
The Bachelor Auction is exactly what it sounds like, unattached men are auctioned off to a room of screaming women, with proceeds benefiting the above-mentioned women’s shelter. This year they raised well over $25,000 to support the cause.
My girlfriends and I made a fancy weekend of it, riding the Alaska Railroad to and from Talkeetna in our best outfits. Bronwyn and I pulled out our pillbox hats and her fancy, slight bedraggled furs. We might have been the best-dressed gals in town!
