Gratitude Check

I am grateful for:

Alaska’s beautiful scenery and the opportunities afforded to me to explore it

My friends near and far, who are really family by now

Warm strangers, who have become friends

My family, who send me so much love from afar.

I feel like I’ve been gut-punched with news of the Orlando shooting and the random, senseless murder of a friend’s significant other. I’m grateful for the safety of my friends and family, and feeling heartache for the people who can’t say the same about their own. I am grateful for a weekend of experiences that keep me in a headspace that doesn’t despair about violence, homophobia, terrorism and dangerous rhetoric in our country and fear that it’s going to show up in my community.

Gratitude check, my friends.
