Summer is off with a bang in South central AK! We’re getting a head start on locally sourced food for the freezer, starting with halibut.
A couple ladies and I went out on Kachemak Bay from Homer on a pre-season fishing charter. What’s pre-season? Half price, my friends. Claire, Becky and I spent Saturday night in Homer, camping at Mossy’s Seaside Farm. Another pre-season deal: 2fer1, because the meadow hadn’t been “opened” (mowed) for campers yet.
It was a great day on KBay. We were Captain Dan‘s first charter of the season, so we got to break in the boat and set the tone for the rest of the season. Happily, we started catching fish right away and limited out within a couple hours at sea. We moved around to troll for king salmon after with no luck, but with blue skies and calm seas there were no complaints from our team.
An hour or so of processing, vac-sealing and Bloody Mary’s with Carlin at the Inlet View Lodge and we were on our way back to Anchorage. Amazingly, I was home and in bed by 11 PM. Not a bad way to start the season!
