Commuter Chronicles: The Perks

It was about 10 minutes into my ride, right between home and work. The sun was rising behind me, and I was saying “good morning” to everyone I passed.

Just through the Magic Forest and around the bend by the A Street underpass, there were two bicyclists, a lady and a dog pulled off the side of the trail. They were all so quiet.

I looked where they were looking and their screens were and there it was: a bald eagle, sitting in a low tree branch between the creek and bike path.

There’s plenty of reason to ride a bicycle to work: good health, being a part of commuter community, etc.

And then there’s rides like this morning, and the accessibility to wildlife (like a bald eagle) and that’s the reason to ride a bicycle to work that just trumps them all.
