Shake Me All Night Long… Or don’t.

Update: after original post, another source quoted U.S. Geological Survey registering 7.1 magnitude.

I’m laying in bed, wide awake and shaking after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake just shivered through southcentral AK.

The first rumble felt like a wave – almost like someone was heavily getting in and out bed. As soon as I sat up the more vicious shaking started and I flew out of bed and into the closest door frame.

The shaking stopped, rumbled again and stopped. A quick survey of the apartment: 2 toppled lamps (1 won’t turn on), pictures & knickknacks in disarray, and significant damage to the glass stove top: a growler fell and landed just right on the burner, shattering a ton of glass. Yikes.

I’m tired but afraid I won’t sleep for a while now. The hot water heater just clicked over and the sound startled me – I thought it was another quake. It’s going to be a long night.

  1. Oh no!! I’m so sorry about your stove, that sucks! Last night was super scary, I was just then going to sleep but it still took me a second to realize what was happening. Definitely the strongest earthquake I’ve ever experienced!

Thanks for hanging out last night, we had a lot of fun and it was the perfect opportunity for Brandon to redeem himself and return to the scene of the crime haha:) happy Sunday!
